The Institute of Wellbeing (IWB) is a Bangladeshi NGO located in Dhaka. IWB was founded in 2013 to promote the ideas in Beyond Apologies, Defining and Achieving an Economics of Wellbeing. At IWB, we believe that there is enough wealth in the world so that nobody need live in abject poverty; we also believe that no generation has the right to destroy the environment for current and future generations. We also believe in the importance of celebrating diversity in workplaces and community.

We often think of wellbeing as happiness, but it is more than that. It is about having meaning in our lives—developing as a person and feeling that our lives are fulfilling and worthwhile. Wellbeing comes from having a web of relationships and interests. Family and friends, work, leisure activities and spiritual beliefs can all increase our wellbeing. The intimacy, sense of belonging and support offered by close personal relationships are of greatest value.

Institute of Well-being’s super goal is, to improve population health and well-being and reduce inequalities in society and promote the philosophy of well-being in the development sector in Bangladesh.

Material comforts are essential up to a point, and there is no doubt that poverty remains a serious problem in Bangladesh. But for most people more money would add little to their wellbeing. The Institute of Wellbeing is a new cross-disciplinary initiative in Bangladesh at its early formation stage, which aims to promote the quality research and training in the science of wellbeing, and to integrate this research into first rate evidence-based practice.
